DIY Beard Balm Recipe

Even though the beard seems like a modern trend, men have been growing and maintaining facial hair since the early 19th century.   According to the Telegraph, men grow beards for different reasons depending on their local culture. In the Middle East, bearded men are even seen as wise and powerful.

However, bearded faces have a downside too. A beard can lead to more frequent skin infections and the transmission of germs. Therefore, men should sanitize and wash the beard with regular soap and nourish the skin underneath.

Beard balm helps keeps the hair smooth, moisturizes the skin and softens the beard, making it easier to style.

Make your own beard balm with the following DIY Beard Balm recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1oz of Beeswax
  • 0.5 oz of Oil Andiroba
  • 0.3 oz Ojon Oil
  • 0.5 oz of Cupuacu Butter
  • 20 – 30 drops of a fragrance oil of your choice (See our suggestions below*)

Directions:

    1. Heat the Cupuacu butter, beeswax and Ojon oil in a saucepan over low heat.

    2. Once all ingredients are melted, add the fragrance oil.

    3. Pour melted the ingredients into a balm container.

    4. Let it sit until cool or place in the refrigerator.

    Property of each ingredient:
    • Andiroba Oil:   Chemical analysis of andiroba oil identified anti-inflammatory, healing and anti-fungal properties that are attributed to the presence of Limonoids, known as Andirobin.
    • Ojon Oil:  Rich in fatty acids and vitamins A, aside from being an excellent moisturizer.
    • Cupuacu Butter:  Offers numerous benefits to the skin: slows aging, increases elasticity, moisturize the skin and is considered a natural sunscreen, blocking the UV-A and UV-B. Also, it may reduce the appearance of wrinkles and soothe skin irritations such as dermatitis and eczema.
    • Beeswax:  Locks in moisture, fosters cells and protects skin. With its water repelling properties, beeswax sustains sunscreen action.
